What an incredible week it’s been attending and presenting at the Acoustics 2018 Adelaide, the annual conference of the Australian Acoustical Society.
With its theme of “Hear To Listen”, Acoustics 2018 Adelaide included plenary sessions addressing the impact of science and technology on acoustics and amenity, whether it be internal spaces, environmental, or latest areas including acoustic pattern classification. Other major streams will address Airport/Road/Railway noise, standards and guidelines, including those from EPA’s, Underwater Acoustics/Marine Bioacoustics, and Vibration.
Durra Panels have a tried and proven track record for low frequency noise control. Durra Building Systems can be designed to meet your specific acoustic needs; noise reduction and reverberation control, which makes Durra systems ideal choices for airports, hotels, arenas and theatres, just to name a few. Durra Panel is the labour saving alternative to expensive multilayer plasterboard ceiling and wall systems. Compress your build time and save money with Durra Panel.
We’re in the early stages of a new project at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, part of the University of Melbourne.
A small project but completely custom based on the requirements of our client and the existing building. Versatile in application, Durra Steel Sections are available according to span and general project requirements and are suited to level, curved or raking roof designs.
Stay tuned for some progress pics!
Another impressive fire test for clients from New Zealand. Our Durra Panels have a one hour fire rating, and are a unique, naturally fire resistant product that releases no dangerous toxic chemicals, no flaming droplets combined with a low smoke density index. The carbonising action of the straw core when exposed to flame retards fire penetration of the panel.
The responsibility of ensuring environmentally sustainable design rests with us all. Every inch of Durra Panel is 100% natural and recyclable. The Durra manufacturing process combines heat and pressure to form a solid panel core. No chemical binders are needed as a natural polymer in the straw fibre is released during this process and acts as a binding agent. As a result, Durra generates no toxic waste. Durra Panel is an innovative building material that meets the needs for today’s ‘green’ construction industry.
This custom made studio was purpose built for our client and then hauled from Bendigo to it’s new home in Newstead.
Internal walls and ceilings were constructed with a lightweight steel framework our high impact and fire resistant panels – Durra Panel. Studios can be delivered flat packaged to site for assembly or can be constructed off-site and craned/placed into position like this one.

We’re very proud to be making the rounds in the media lately. Our studio, The Loft, has appeared in the Harold Sun and on a Current Affair. All to do with affordable and sustainable living. Built with our Durra Panels, which provide excellent acoustic and thermal insulating properties, proven durability, and high impact and fire resistance. It is ideal for wall and ceiling use in commercial, industrial and residential applications.
Durra Panel® is unique. It is environmentally friendly and contains no formaldehyde or additional chemical binders.
Made from wheat and or rice straw fibres, the Durra manufacturing process combines extreme heat and compression in a dry extrusion process to form the solid panel core. A natural polymer in the straw fibre is released during the procedure, and a water based PVA glue is used to encapsulate the finished core with a high strength recycled Kraft paper liner. The result produces zero toxic waste.

Ortech Industries is proud to be working with RayGen Resources on the expansion of their solar tower power technology in central Victoria. With a recent $4.8 million in grant funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, RayGen’s pilot solar PV plant in Newbridge, Victoria is set to grow commercially across Australia and abroad.
From construction to transportation and installation, we’ve worked with RayGen to design a Solar Control Room to meet the needs of the project and allow them a space to work onsite.
Working together with Fletcher Construction, Durra Panel and Durra Steel Sections form the acoustic roof/ceiling system of the building, providing both internal reverb control and noise isolation in one.
For fast and safe coverage of the buildings envelope, Durra Panel and Durra Steel Sections are installed using our Lifting Frame, where modules of approx. 100m2 are assembled at ground level and crane hoisted on to the structural steel. The Lifting Frame eliminates the need for expensive internal scaffolding, minimising risks associated with working at heights.
This development will create a significant link between the core of Auckland city centre and its western fringe. Mezzanine levels with a panoramic view towards the Upper Waitemata Harbour and across over Ponsonby creates an impressive space Aucklanders and international visitors will use and enjoy.
In the wake of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, a new sports facility is starting to take shape in the Sunshine State. The Queensland State Netball Centre in Nathan’s Sports and Athletic Hub will boast a 5000-seat show court as well as changing rooms and sports medicine facilities for community and elite athletes. The State Netball Centre will also play host to Suncorp Super Netball Team, the Queensland Firebirds.
Working together with Hansen Yuncken and the Queensland State Government, Ortech Industries has supplied both Acoustic Ceiling and Wall Systems for the Stadium, with our Durra Acoustic Pattern Panel providing Impact Resistance, Internal Sound Absorption whilst mitigating Traffic Noise Intrusion from the adjacent Pacific Motorway.
Durra Panel has now been installed in 6 of the 8 National Competition’s Home Stadiums – A testament to the high acoustic performance of Ortech Building Systems.
The Queensland State Netball Centre is set for completion mid-2018.
‘The Loft’, has found its new home in Port Melbourne!
