This is the perfect example of our removable roof system.
This Durra Building System in Homebush, New South Wales was installed for their new Fujitsu Data Centre. Our acoustic panels have been specifically chosen for their noise reduction and reverberation control, as this building is within a residential area. The Durra Trafficable/Walkable Suspended Ceiling is a unique 2 in 1 system, providing an outstanding mass barrier for acoustic and thermal insulation to the work area below and a safe walkable access area to maintain services above the ceiling. It is a cost effective system that has outstanding acoustic properties, along with strong fire resistance and environmental benefits.
The Durra Lifting Frame was used to save valuable time, cost, and improves the safety of workers on site. It has been widely used on large scale projects to install roof/ceiling (modular) systems in record breaking time.
Durra Building Systems can be designed to meet your specific acoustic needs; noise reduction and reverberation control, which makes Durra systems ideal choices for airports, hotels, arenas and theatres, just to name a few.
The Queensland State Netball Centre in Nathan’s Sports and Athletic Hub is finished and looking great! This impressive venue boasts a 5000-seat show court as well as changing rooms and sports medicine facilities for community and elite athletes. The State Netball Centre plays host to Suncorp Super Netball Team, the Queensland Firebirds.
Working together with Hansen Yuncken and the Queensland State Government, Ortech Industries has supplied both Acoustic Ceiling and Wall Systems for the Stadium, with our Durra Acoustic Pattern Panel providing Impact Resistance, Internal Sound Absorption whilst mitigating Traffic Noise Intrusion from the adjacent Pacific Motorway.
Durra Panel has now been installed in 6 of the 8 National Competition’s Home Stadiums – A testament to the high acoustic performance of Ortech Building Systems.
We’re on the move!
A fantastic boutique winery in the heart of Heathcote Wine Region is growing with the addition of 5 Ortech cabins. Views don’t get better than that!
The cabins are all either studios or one bedroom spaces and equipped with pristine interior finishes.
The Ortech Eco-Form system is a new revolutionary development for environmentally sustainable modular building applications. From design to construction and re-usability, modular customisation is the key concept of our Ortech Eco-Form System.
A comfortable and private structure for any use; it is prefabricated, extendable, and relocatable, suitable for temporary individual dwellings to large scale accommodation and facilities. This system is also demountable and can be flat packed for economical storage or be combined together to construct larger buildings with endless possibilities.
Our raised roof batten system is an ideal solution for discretely running larger services through a roof cavity.
Durra Panel and Durra Steel Sections were supplied for the new General Purpose Learning area at St Simons The Apostle Primary School in Rowville, Victoria. Ticking the box with a group 2 fire rating, our roof/ceiling system also provides thermal and acoustic performance in one.
The installation was quick, safe and economical (due to the large size; self supporting and walkable load bearing capacity of Durra Panel) together with a large range of aesthetic surface finishes, plus the added benefits of impact resistance, thermal + acoustic insulation Durra Panel is a highly versatile ceiling material with wide ranging applications.
Out with the old and in with the new! A complete factory roof replacement of 1,000m2 was completed in just 7 days!
The existing roof was heavily deteriorated due to the corrosive manufacturing environment inside, making it unsafe to walk on and a challenge to replace without lengthy shut-down periods for the company. Ortech has developed a new ‘Demolition frame’ which allowed safe, trafficable access around its perimeter for tradesmen to prepare each module for removal.
The new Ortech modules were pre-assembled and stacked at ground level, with roof decking already fixed, ready for crane hoisting with the Durra Lifting Frame.
While also providing fast and safe installation, the Ortech ceiling system was an obvious solution to protecting the steel work from the factory’s corrosive environment.
What an amazing 2018 it was! One of our busiest years yet with some export and major domestic projects. We finished the year off with our final lift for the Auckland Convention Centre, a landmark project for us in New Zealand.
We’ve got big things happening in 2019. We’ll continue to work on a large factory in Indonesia, which will have over 40,000M2 of our walkeable ceiling on site. Our small home design & build programme is rapidly expanding and a display village is growing at our site in Bendigo.
We hope everyone is as excited for 2019 as we are!
What an incredible week it’s been attending and presenting at the Acoustics 2018 Adelaide, the annual conference of the Australian Acoustical Society.
With its theme of “Hear To Listen”, Acoustics 2018 Adelaide included plenary sessions addressing the impact of science and technology on acoustics and amenity, whether it be internal spaces, environmental, or latest areas including acoustic pattern classification. Other major streams will address Airport/Road/Railway noise, standards and guidelines, including those from EPA’s, Underwater Acoustics/Marine Bioacoustics, and Vibration.
Durra Panels have a tried and proven track record for low frequency noise control. Durra Building Systems can be designed to meet your specific acoustic needs; noise reduction and reverberation control, which makes Durra systems ideal choices for airports, hotels, arenas and theatres, just to name a few. Durra Panel is the labour saving alternative to expensive multilayer plasterboard ceiling and wall systems. Compress your build time and save money with Durra Panel.
Another impressive fire test for clients from New Zealand. Our Durra Panels have a one hour fire rating, and are a unique, naturally fire resistant product that releases no dangerous toxic chemicals, no flaming droplets combined with a low smoke density index. The carbonising action of the straw core when exposed to flame retards fire penetration of the panel.
The responsibility of ensuring environmentally sustainable design rests with us all. Every inch of Durra Panel is 100% natural and recyclable. The Durra manufacturing process combines heat and pressure to form a solid panel core. No chemical binders are needed as a natural polymer in the straw fibre is released during this process and acts as a binding agent. As a result, Durra generates no toxic waste. Durra Panel is an innovative building material that meets the needs for today’s ‘green’ construction industry.
This custom made studio was purpose built for our client and then hauled from Bendigo to it’s new home in Newstead.
Internal walls and ceilings were constructed with a lightweight steel framework our high impact and fire resistant panels – Durra Panel. Studios can be delivered flat packaged to site for assembly or can be constructed off-site and craned/placed into position like this one.

We’re very proud to be making the rounds in the media lately. Our studio, The Loft, has appeared in the Harold Sun and on a Current Affair. All to do with affordable and sustainable living. Built with our Durra Panels, which provide excellent acoustic and thermal insulating properties, proven durability, and high impact and fire resistance. It is ideal for wall and ceiling use in commercial, industrial and residential applications.
Durra Panel® is unique. It is environmentally friendly and contains no formaldehyde or additional chemical binders.
Made from wheat and or rice straw fibres, the Durra manufacturing process combines extreme heat and compression in a dry extrusion process to form the solid panel core. A natural polymer in the straw fibre is released during the procedure, and a water based PVA glue is used to encapsulate the finished core with a high strength recycled Kraft paper liner. The result produces zero toxic waste.
